Last week, I had the opportunity to introduce the world of captive insurance to bright young minds at the University of South Carolina's Darla Moore School of Business. Joined by industry experts David Ward, Laura Rodrigo, and Karen Strange, we dove into the realm of captives with two risk management classes and then the Gamma Iota Sigma society.
Despite being newcomers to the concept, these students exhibited an impressive level of engagement and intellectual curiosity. Their thought-provoking questions and eagerness to participate created a dynamic dialogue that left both sides inspired.
The topics we discussed about captive insurance ran the gamut - from defining what a captive is and the formation process to the professionals involved and the prominence of South Carolina as a captive domicile - the students' enthusiasm was palpable. It's always thrilling to witness that spark of interest ignite in young minds, potentially shaping their future careers.
What struck me most was the caliber of education these students are receiving. With industry professionals at the helm, bridging theory and practice, USC is cultivating a new generation of risk management experts. The robust attendance in risk management classes and active participation in the GIS society further underscored this commitment to excellence.
For me, these presentations are more than just educational opportunities - they're a chance to shape the future of our industry. The captive space is not just a career; it's a community of exceptional professionals offering genuine value to captive owners and each other. By introducing these bright, driven individuals to our field, we're not only offering them a promising career path but also enriching our industry with fresh talent and perspectives.
As I reflect on the day, I'm filled with optimism. The future of captive insurance looks brighter than ever, with USC producing well-educated risk professionals poised to make significant impacts. At Captives.Insure, we're committed to leading the charge in introducing the next generation to the right way of doing captives.
In the end, it's about paying it forward. Just as I stand on the shoulders of those who helped me, I'm dedicated to elevating others, helping them reach even greater heights. Together, we're not just shaping careers; we're forging the future of captive insurance.
